I often talk about “investment pieces” or closet staples on here and my Instagram because they are essential for creating a functional wardrobe.
Classic investment pieces (like a good black blazer) are the foundations of your wardrobe and they are what help make pulling looks together happen more easily and effortlessly.
You don’t need to have a lot of pieces in your closet, you just need to have a good foundation, or capsule collection, and you are good to go.
If you struggle making sense of your wardrobe, I am going to share how to build a capsule collection that is classic and will make outfit planning easier.
To start you need the basic staple items.
Good staples include: neutral bags and shoes, a few good denim pants including a denim jacket, neutral blazers, nude and black heels, and some basic tees.
This is a good starting point to build on!
Here I’ve linked some really good investment pieces that will be the foundation of your closet:
Classic Pieces
Once you have the basics, you then mix and match them with what you already have or simply mix and match your capsule collection, especially for a minimalistic and effortless look.
For example, you can wear this black blazer with shorts and flats for a day look and dress it up with jeans and heels for a more dressy look.
Or wear the jeans with printed tops you already have, as long as the jeans are a good fit, they will go with anything.
What I am trying to get at is, invest in quality pieces and spend less on trend items that go in and out of style.
A classic black blazer, simple heels and classic handbag will never go out of style.
They will work with whatever you pair them with, making getting dressed a breeze.
Here I am wearing some of my favorite classic pieces:
